Congratulations to Filipe, CT1ILT

Filipe (CT1ILT) flying the Portuguese flag at VP5X. A view toward
Portugal.
Although it was a difficult decision
last year having received essays from over a dozen countries
worldwide, our team selected Filipe, CT1ILT, to fill our fifth and
final operator position for CQWW SSB in October 2004. Filipe received
an all expense paid trip to operate VP5X in the 2004 CQWW SSB
contest.
Filipe, 17 years old, is a seasoned
young contester with proven results in past CQWW operating as CQ0T.
Our team believed Filipe was the best choice for assisting the VP5X
team to a win in the CQWW SSB contest.
While there were many other factors
considered in choosing our final team member, Filipe's overwhelming
experience and results in CQWW could not be ignored.
We thank all of the young hams
worldwide whom sent essays this year. A special thanks to all of the
WWYC members that sent essays. We hope to see more next year.
It was very exciting to see so many
essays from so many bright and talented young amateurs from around
the world. There should be no doubt we would have loved to take all
of you with us to North Caicos Island.
For those that applied this year, were
not selected and will be of eligible age next year, please don't
forget to send in a new essay next year.
Again, thank you all for sending your
essays. We enjoyed reading them all!
David, KY1V
PS - The runner-up, in the event
Filipe cannot make the trip, is Anton, RX9TL.

Daniel is 14 years old and has held
an amateur extra class license since he was 11. Daniel is able to
send and receive morse code at 30wpm and was a significant asset
to our team for this years CQWW CW contest.
Daniel is a member of the Yankee
Clipper Contest Club, is a member of FISTS and regularly operates
during the ARRL Straight Key Night on New Years Eve.
Daniel was a team player,
handled his own in pile-ups and was eager to learn from more
experienced operators, such as Kyle (WA4PGM) and Kari (OH3RB).
This was Daniel's first DXpedition.
The photo above is Daniel flying the Turks & Caicos flag from the
tower in Whitby, North Caicos. It was an honor to have him on our
team in 2003.
