We are once again planning to operate
from the
La
Villa Rose in
Whitby on North Caicos Island.
At this time, it has been determined we
will operate CQWW SSB in October.
This opens the door to many more young hams by lifting the CW
requirement.
All team operators must be licensed in
their home country and pay $25 for a license to operate while in
VP5. The license is valid for one year. All US citizens require photo
identification and your original birth certificate or a valid
passport (recommended). All other non British individuals require a
valid passport.
Free Trip For A Young Ham
Once again we
are sponsoring one young ham operator (21 or under) to join our team
and
receive an all expense paid trip to operate in the CQWW SSB 2004 contest with
the VP5X
team. You can reside in any country in the world and be considered
for this opportunity provided you hold a valid amateur radio license
in your country and have some contest experience.
This is a gift to a young ham whom
has a passion for Ham Radio and contesting. It is our way
of giving something back to this great hobby that has given so much
to each of us!
To qualify, you must send an email to contests
@ vp5x.com (remove the spaces) containing an essay of a minimum of 500 words
or more, in English, describing how you got started in ham radio,
whom guided you through the process, and tell us why you should be selected for this
multi-single contest opportunity at VP5X. Please include your full
name, call sign and home address.
We are looking for a young ham (21 or under), with some contest
experience that would
consider this opportunity a dream come true! You must have your
parent’s written permission to make the trip on your own, or they
may join you, at their own expense.
We will continue to take applications from young hams until
August 31, 2004.
Our team will review all applicants for the young ham position and
select one young ham to join us for this exciting DXpedition and
contest opportunity.
David, KY1V/VP5X, will pay all expenses for the young ham, including
airfare, license fees, QTH rental share and food. The rest of the
VP5X team will ensure this is the most memorable ham radio
experience ever!
The selection process will be based upon the young hams written
essay of 500 words or more describing how he got started in amateur
radio, describe the ham’s Elmer (the person helping the ham get
started in amateur radio) and why the ham should be selected for
this exciting contest expedition. We are particularly looking for a young ham that has
never been on any DX expedition and would not otherwise have the
opportunity under any other circumstances.
Where & When
We will meet on Providenciales
four days prior to the contest. Once all team members have arrived,
we will acquire food and provisions before departing by commuter
airline to North Caicos Island. We will set up the equipment,
antennas, and run tests during the three days prior to the contest.
During that time you will be able to operate the radios (2 stations)
as VP5/yourcall. We will probably spend a half day deep sea fishing.
We had a blast last year.
When the contest has been
completed, we will remove the additional antennas from the tower and
remain on North Caicos until Tuesday morning, at which
time we will depart for Provo.
73,
David, KY1V, VP5X
