CQWW CW 2003 Team Photos
The last leg begins on
Provo!

The Provo airport. It looks kind of
like a ghost town, eh?

Our very own twin engine charter
plane flown by none other than student pilot KY1V from Provo to
North Caicos. The rest of the team was extremely frightened during
the 12 minute flight when they discovered KY1V was flying the
aircraft!

Kari, OH3RB, asking the
co-pilot for a refund after discovering KY1V was promoted to captain
and actually did the flying.
Time for some rest and relaxation!

Nothing like starting off your
DXpedition to VP5 with a morning of deep sea fishing. Now where's
that rum punch?

Daniel, W2AU, reeling in his first
Wahoo! Daniel slept through most of the deep sea fishing

Daniel, W2AU catches dinner! Wahoo,
did this kids dream come true?

Kari, OH3RB, snags a barracuda. We're not
certain which got the better of him, the fish or rum punch

Kyle, WA4PGM, tackles a Wahoo like he's done
this before. "let him run a bit" says our guide

Juha, OH9MM, thought he would never get a
turn, but when his comes, there is no Wahoo or Barracuda on the end
of his line...he has a 50 lb sail fish on the line and struggles to
bring it in. After about 15 minutes he is ready for help

David, KY1V, dawns the masters glove
to FINNISH (no pun intended) the job!

The deep sea fishing trip is a
rewarding experience for all with the grand finale catching this
50lb sail fish. This young sail fish was returned to the sea and has
hopefully learned his lesson! Stay away from ham!

Wahoo...no grocery shopping required!

Kari, OH3RB (left), and Juha, OH9MM (right),
get some much needed sun after spending months in darkness in
northern Finland!
Let's eat!

Our guide making filets of Wahoo and
Barracuda. Oh yum!

You are going to eat that? How about
some beef please!

The cook! Without Kyle, WA4PGM, we
would have surely starved to death!

Finally, some real food!
Now its time to get to work

No one wants to climb the tower
except David, KY1V, and he is too fat for the safety belt onsite. In a
daring effort to save the contest, KY1V puts his Navy training to
use and makes a homemade harness. I guess it worked, because he is
still alive today!

David, KY1V climbs the tower to make
repairs to the 160M inverted L. Little did he know that erosion and
the last hurricane left the front guy wire being held by only three
strands of wire! This must be repaired this spring.

Kari, OH3RB, finally gives in and climbs the
tower. He is setting up the Force 12 for the multiplier station
working Europe

The finished product. Hy-Gain 2el 40,
Bencher Skyhawk, Force 12, 80m inverted V, 160m inverted L. Let's
start a pileup!
The work is done, now lets play!

David, KY1V, makes the inaugural VP5X
QSO!

Young Daniel, W2AU, takes the
helm as if he were a seasoned veteran!

Kyle, WA4PGM, The MASTER, shows us
how its done at the run station, Juha, OH9MM, picking off mults and
directing them to the run station while the rest of us look on in
anticipation of operating

Kari, OH3RB, running at 250+
QSO's per hour while Daniel, W2AU hunts multipliers!
